Giulia Seri (b. 1988) is an Italian interdisciplinary artist based in Florence. She holds a Master’s degree in Biology from Florence University and in 2023 was awarded the Medal of Arte dei Vasai della Nobile Contrada del Nicchio in Siena, recognizing her contribution to contemporary artistic practice. Seri’s work is deeply personal, functioning as both exorcism and exploration: a means to materialize, understand, and transform trauma, fragility, and fear.

Her creative process prioritizes intuition over rational thought, tapping into the most emotional and unconscious parts of herself. Through this approach, she recovers a childlike language—unrestrained, pure, and deeply expressive. Seri’s work addresses illness, disability, death, loss, and despair, often functioning apotropaically, as a way to confront past and future ghosts through symbolic acts resembling prayers, votive offerings, or spells.

Materials and aesthetics play a crucial role in her practice. The delicacy of watercolor, bread, ceramics, pastel tones, flowers, and glitter contrasts with the painful subject matter, softening it and offering a sense of beauty, compassion, and acceptance. Ultimately, Seri’s art can be read as a tender gesture toward her younger self: a caress, a warning, and a cry of encouragement, urging resilience and acknowledgment of life’s grief, while seeking traces of hope and human tenderness within it.
