ELEVEN TEN STUDIO ARTIST RUN SPACE IN BASEL

Studio Audience Whoops by Christopher Wishart

CHF1,500.00Price

This series of works can be seen as an exploration of the value and entropy of information. Merging influences from both analog and digital realms, Chris interprets and represents these ideas through experimental layouts and mark-making. His approach emphasizes the tangible experience of creation, which he views as a crucial way to engage with the transient nature of information and the ever-evolving landscape of communication.

By immersing himself in the physical process of making art, Chris forms a deep connection with his materials, allowing textures, forms, and imperfections to guide his expression. This tactile interaction not only grounds his work in the real world but also serves as a counterbalance to the ephemeral qualities of digital communication. Through his art, he captures and reflects upon the fleeting, often chaotic flow of information, creating a dialogue between the enduring impact of traditional techniques and the impermanent nature of contemporary media.

  • About the Artist

Christopher Wishart, born in 1975, hails from a satellite town of Glasgow in West Central Scotland, near the historical site of the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire. His formative years were shaped by the socio-political turbulence of the Thatcher era, set against a backdrop of local and global conflict during the final years of the Cold War. Growing up in close proximity to a naval ordnance testing facility, an abandoned coal mine, and a Victorian-era psychiatric institution profoundly influenced his creative development and perspective on life.

Now based in Basel, Switzerland, Chris began his academic journey in the arts in Glasgow and continued in Edinburgh, where he earned an honors degree from the School of Visual Communication. His artistic practice is deeply rooted in the tactile traditions of art, with a strong emphasis on physical interaction with materials. While he advocates for the role of digital technologies in art, his creative process remains firmly anchored in the analogue world, valuing the authenticity and depth that come from direct engagement with the materials he works with.
