Jakub Stachowiak (born 1984 in Poland) is a Basel-based photographer and creative marketing designer. His work explores male intimacy, desire, and the dynamics of the gaze within a male context. Rooted in digital photography, his practice focuses on male portraits, bodies, gestures, and everyday situations that move between observation and participation.
Working with vintage digital cameras, Stachowiak embraces the distinct aesthetics of older sensors, developing a raw and tactile visual language. His images carry a subtle erotic tension, often combined with playfulness and humor, as well as the use of objects or staged interactions, creating moments that feel both familiar and slightly displaced.
Rather than presenting fixed narratives, his work unfolds through atmosphere and suggestion, inviting viewers to engage closely and construct their own interpretations through attention and experience.
Stachowiak has been living in Switzerland for over 15 years. He studied Media and Communication, later working in marketing and creative communication. He began photographing for personal projects around eight years ago, initially as a response to the limitations of commissioned imagery. Over time, photography became a central practice, developing into a personal visual language and long-term artistic focus.
