ELEVEN TEN STUDIO ARTIST RUN SPACE IN BASEL

VIVIANE HERZOG (b. 1990) creates paintings, installations, and participatory works that explore the complexity of human connections and relationships. Her earlier career as a writer and editor, where she focused on individuals and their life stories, sparked her deep interest in the human experience, a theme that continues to resonate in her art today. Herzog graduated with a Bachelor in Art Mediation (Kunstvermittlung) from HGK Basel in 2024. During her studies, she was irresistibly drawn to creating art herself, shifting from educating others about art to making it. She has worked in different studio spaces around Basel since 2022.

Herzog finds joy in working with materials from everyday life, such as brown paper and salvaged textiles. These materials reflect a shared human experience as they hold a lot of memory and therefore create intercultural connections. Her works open up space and invite reflection, dialogue, and presence, affirming the beauty and complexity of simply being human, with all its frictions, imperfections, and the power to transform. Through her art, Herzog engages with a wide range of human connections—from intimate relationships between lovers and friends, to broader societal issues and perspectives on contemporary life.

She has participated in several group shows at galleries in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2023 and 2024. RELATIONAL was her first solo show in Basel, where she combined installation, participatory art, and paintings with her fondness for printmaking.
