Bird's-nest fern by Igigo Wu
This series of works was inspired by the Taiwanese geopolitical landscape, featuring two specific types of plantations, where artist spent most of her childhood: Coastal windbreaks and Experimental Forests. In a lifelong personal dialogue with the natures in Taiwan, her body absorbed, memorised, and crystallised, as if it was composed of soils and various bodies of water, rather than flesh and blood. Forgotten wounds, reimbursed memories, collective traumas, personal stories, body as landscape. These are never-ending stories existing in other forms of languages about the silenced and the wounded, through the soil, through trajectories of rivers, and through mapping of forest forms.

About the Artist
Igigo Wu is a Zürich based, multi-disciplinary Taiwanese artist whose works include mainly paintings, drawings, photography, writing, and experimental film. Her research circulates around definitions of identity, aiming to reveal brutal qualities lying in the nature of history, identity, and memory. She focuses on exercising painting as an organically self-developing ecosystem of consciousness and critical thinking process about the ecology of modern violence in a post-colonial context. In her works viewers are able to enter and reveal the terrain of the unspeakable, the zone of violence beyond our cognitive capacity for language, from where all the memory come and to where eventually return.
