Duncan Passmore (*1984) is a British artist based in Basel. His work immerses viewers in worlds shaped by subconscious marks that are smeared, erased, and buffed, revealing hidden structures beneath the surface. Through these processes, Passmore invites an apophenic engagement, where seemingly random elements form connections that are open to individual interpretation. This liberation from literal representation is tempered by a counterbalance: a "Gestalt-based order" that anchors the works in harmony, structure, and dynamic expression. His exploration spans across painting, murals, and installations, where he experiments with the tension between figuration and abstraction. In his practice, gestures are offered as pathways for meaning to unfold, inviting a collective encounter with something both unfamiliar and unexpectedly familiar.
